The Self-Centric Relational System (SCRS) is a tool designed to create a graphic representation of your relational world. So much of who you are and how you remain adjusted to the world depends on the quality of your relationships.
We have a natural affinity and hunger for relationships. Through the biological process of attachment, or imprinting, in many species an indelible neurological bond is formed between a newborn and its caregiver. Moreover, we possess brain circuitry designed specifically to anticipate and understand the cognitive and emotional states of others. Through intimate social and emotional interaction, this brain circuitry is strengthened and flourishes.
Consequently, children who grow up in a relational void are often unable to learn how to have normal relationships later in life. They are prone to greater levels of physical, neurological and mental illness. Likewise, adults who suffer relational deficits are physically and emotionally less healthy and tend to have shorter life spans.
Simply speaking, it is impossible to exist without the aid of others. A strong relational network is a key resource, and those with this resource are happier and live longer.
The SCRS tool provides a way to view the breadth, depth, and quality of your relational world in a single graphic, which will promote a deeper and more deliberate consideration than is normally the case.
With this knowledge you may be satisfied with the current state of your relational world, or you may be motivated to make intentional and purposeful changes.
